The Kennedy Center's planned $257 million (£190 million) renovation has been thrown into uncertainty after its board voted to immediately shut the performing arts venue, hours after a federal judge again blocked efforts to put President Donald Trump's name on the building.
Trump said the closure was necessary for safety reasons but warned that reconstruction would not proceed if courts ultimately reject the board's plans to recognise him at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts. Congress has approved $257 million towards renovation work.
