Kendal Calling fans divided over ‘bog standard’ lineup for 2023 festival

The lineup for this year’s Kendal Calling has been confirmed, and fans have been left hugely divided over the “bog standard” announcement. More than 100 acts have so far been confirmed to be heading to the festival when it returns in July.

The big names to have been announced on Wednesday (January 25) are Leicester legends Kasabian, rock duo Royal Blood, and Stockport’s own Blossoms, who will top the bill alongside 2019 headliners Nile Rodgers & Chic. Among the other acts joining them are Happy Mondays, Kaiser Chiefs, and ‘80s icon Rick Astley.

Situated in the Lake District’s Lowther Deer Park, the four-day festival will take place from July 27 to 30. This marks Kendal Calling’s second consecutive year since organisers were forced to cancel the event during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Festival co-founders Andy Smith and Ben Robinson described the lineup as “absolutely stacked.” They said: “After an absolutely stunning festival last year, we cannot wait to get back in those fields!

“With Kasabian, Royal Blood, Blossoms, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Kaiser Chiefs, Rick Astley, Annie Mac - the line-up is looking absolutely stacked. All we need now is a bit of sun and we’ve got the perfect weekend!”

Despite the number of chart-toppers confirmed for the summertime festival, fans have been left divided over what some claim is the “worst line up yet” and others feel is “mega.” Reacting to the announcement on Twitter, @AntBurgess3 said: “That’s probably the worst line up yet! Truly awful.”
