Kemi Badenoch to be interviewed at Tory party conference – how to watch

TORY leadership candidates Kemi Badenoch and Tom Tugendhat will take to the stage at the Conservative Party conference this afternoon.

Along with James Cleverly and Robert Jenrick, the pair are vying to replace Rishi Sunak as the party’s leader.

It comes after Richard Fuller, the interim chairman of the party, has said he, the shadow chief whip and the chairman of the 1922 Committee of backbench MPs were “very clear” at the start of the contest there should be “no blue-on-blue” attacks between candidates.

Here’s all you need to know.

What’s happening at Tory conference today?

According to the party’s agenda, Badenoch and Tugendhat will take to the stage around 2pm for a “meet our leadership candidates” event.

Anyone who wishes to see the conference can do so through the Conservative Party YouTube channel.

Other major broadcasters including Sky News and BBC will also likely be broadcasting parts of the conference.

However, Badenoch’s (above) big event will be an hour-long interview on the conference main stage at 3pm with GB News.

The first half will be taken up by questions from journalist Chris Hope before she faces a grilling from Tory members.

Maternity pay row

Badenoch has already faced criticism from her leadership rivals after suggesting that maternity pay was “excessive”.

She was slammed for comments in a radio interview on Sunday in which she was asked about the level of maternity pay in the UK.

Badenoch said the regulations on businesses were “excessive” although later said her words had been twisted.
