Kemi Badenoch ‘has to adapt’ her rhetoric to take on Andy Burnham

Kemi Badenoch speaks from behind a pale wooden lectern on an outdoor terrace. There are tall office buildings in the background. She wears a long red jacket over a bright blue top and has her braids tied back into a low bun at the back of her head.

“So, Andy Burnham seems like a nice guy.” Those were the slightly unexpected opening words of Kemi Badenoch’s first speech since the change in prime minister. But make no mistake: she was there to bury her opponent.
