West Indies fast bowler Kemar Roach’s second spell with Surrey has been ended after just two matches due to a hamstring injury.
Roach has returned to the Caribbean after picking up the injury in the first innings of Surrey’s thumping win over Hampshire at the Kia Oval last week.
After a successful spell with the club in 2021, Roach was due to play five County Championship matches at the start of this season. But he managed just two, the bore draw at Edgbaston in the season opener, then the Hampshire win.
“I’m gutted that my time at Surrey has come to an end due to a slight injury but I want to thank the whole Surrey family for the love and care they have shown,” said Roach.
Surrey will face an uphill battle to replace Roach for the early part of this season in an awkward market, with player availability low and visa issues.
In better news for Surrey, Sam Curran made a return to bowling in a Second XI fixture against Hampshire on Tuesday.
Curran bowled a single spell in the morning session, picking up one for five from five overs. The wicket was England U19 captain Tom Prest, caught edging a drive to slip.
England all-rounder Curran has been sidelined throughout the winter due to a stress fracture of the back. He has been available to play Surrey’s first two matches of the season as a batter, but did not make the XI.
