Friends and industry figures have voiced concern over Kelly Osbourne's dramatic weight loss following her latest public outings in London and Los Angeles, with some saying they fear the 41-year-old's condition has gone 'beyond grief' since the death of her father, Ozzy Osbourne, last summer. The worry has intensified in the weeks since Kelly and her mother, Sharon Osbourne, walked on stage at the BRIT Awards in London on 28 February.
The pair have been in near-constant public mourning since Ozzy died from a heart attack in July during his long battle with Parkinson's disease, and both women have visibly lost weight in the months since. What had been discussed in tabloids and on social media became a sharper public conversation the moment the cameras caught them under the lights at the O2.
Kelly Osbourne Under A Harsh Spotlight
A music industry source who knows the family said they were stunned by Kelly's recent photographs. 'I see these photos and it's horrifying,' the source said. 'I didn't recognise her. She looks unwell. Is there more to it beyond grief?' In a column in The Times, writer Hadley Freeman described the scene at the BRITs, saying that 'even if you'd never heard of the Osbournes you'd have been extremely bewildered and alarmed by why this cadaverous-looking woman was up on stage, next to her similarly frail mother, instead of under strict medical care.'
Neither Sharon nor Kelly has responded to fresh requests for comment. Kelly has repeatedly attributed her weight loss to grief, while Sharon has backed that explanation. 'She lost her daddy... she can't eat right now,' Sharon has said. A family friend, however, told Page Six they were concerned about both women. Sharon, now 73, has spoken at length about her own weight struggles, including gastric band surgery and weight-loss medication. She has said her weight once topped 230 pounds (approximately 16 stone), and that she became 'too gaunt' after stopping the diabetes drug Ozempic in 2023, with her weight dropping below 100 pounds (approximately 7 stone).
According to a family insider, Ozzy himself had urged Sharon to stop. 'He kept saying, when she went on the jabs and had her surgeries, "Will you please stop?" Ozzy was the one who put his foot down.' Sharon has acknowledged that her husband 'didn't like' how thin she had become, and that even now 'she eats but she can't eat enough to put the weight back on.'
Kelly Osbourne and the Family Weight Loss History
The same source suggested Kelly may have mirrored her mother's behaviour. 'Kelly lived with Sharon after the death of Ozzy and I think she just copied her,' the source claimed. That is speculation rather than documented fact, but it reflects the broader unease among those close to the family.
What is documented is that Kelly's relationship with her body has long played out in public. As a teenager on MTV's 'The Osbournes' between 2002 and 2005, she endured sustained shaming over her appearance. She has admitted to undergoing gastric sleeve surgery in 2018 and has denied using Ozempic. On the 'Scheananigans with Scheana Shay' podcast, she said she lost her baby weight following a pregnancy complicated by gestational diabetes and 'went a little bit too far but stopped.' She also lives on a farm in Iowa with her fiancé, Slipknot musician Sid Wilson, and their three-year-old son, Sidney, while Ozzy is buried on the grounds of the family's 250-acre estate in Buckinghamshire.
After the BRITs and a pre-Grammys appearance in Los Angeles in January, where she told reporters 'I'm not doing so great', the commentary about her appearance drew a rare public response. On Instagram, Kelly wrote: 'There is a special kind of cruelty in harming someone who is clearly going through something. Kicking me while I'm down, doubting my pain, spreading my struggles as gossip, and turning your back when I need support and love most.'
