Kellie Harrington has her dogs wear her boxing medals in hilarious photo

Over the weekend Kellie Harrington emulated Katie Taylor by becoming only the second Irish boxer to win gold at European, World and Olympic level.

The Portland Row native had previously seen her efforts to secure a European title scuppered by injury - but there was no such rotten luck this time as she cruised to victory in the 60kg final where she was barely hit.

And true to form, she shared a gas image where her beloved dogs were front and centre alongside her three most prized medals.

She captioned it: "Not a bad ole day at Crufts. Clean Sweep."

For anyone who doesn't get the punchline, Crufts is the most prestigious dog show in the world.

While Saturday's final against Lenka Bernadova of the Czech Republic was a cagey affair, the Dubliner was clearly superior as she did all of the pushing forward and landed what significant blows there were.

The judges unanimously awarded the bout in her favour. That fight was just one aspect of what was an incredible day for our female fighters in Montenegro.

Immediately afterwards Amy Broadhurst, who also possesses a world title as well as a Commonwealth Games gold, dominated the 63kg decider while about an hour later Aoife O'Rourke became a two-time European champ with a dynamic display of her own.

There were also silver medals for Caitlin Fryers and Tina Desmond to go with the pair of bronzes secured by Michaela Walsh and Shannon Sweeney in the days previous.

The amazing haul of seven medals from our team of ten fighters was a national record.

One interesting thing to note though is that Broadhurst's ideal weight class is also 60 kg and there is no 63kg competition at the Olympics.

So unless she opts to bulk up to 66 kgs and take on women naturally bigger than her, herself and Harrington may need to fight in order to decide which one of them gets the sole spot as Ireland's representative at lightweight for the Paris Games in two years.
