Kell Brook claimed he had to change his gloves in the ring - or end up penniless from his fight against Amir Khan.
Brook took the unusual step of swapping his mitts after walking from his Manchester dressing room.
It made little difference as the Sheffield star dominated from the opening bell until the fight was stopped in the sixth round.
And he later explained: "I had to put different gloves on in the ring.
"He said he wasn't happy with my gloves.
"In the final moment in the ring, they said they wouldn't pay me unless I put new gloves on."
Brook had the better of the exchanges from the first round as Khan looked a shadow of his former self.
The only surprise was that the man so often derided for his 'glass' chin was able to stay on his feet.
And Brook admitted he had enjoyed an easy night's work.
“I’ve sacrificed so much time to train for this fight, they won’t remember all of my fights they’ll just remember me fighting Amir Khan," he said.
"No disrespect to Amir, but it felt so easy in there, I’m happy the chapter has closed on Amir Khan now.
"This is the icing on the cake in my career, I can feel at peace knowing I’ve beaten him. Do I want to carry on? I’m going to sit down with my family and consider my future in the sport.

"I would’ve wanted more of a clinical knockout, like how Canelo did. But he’s been fantastic for the sport, he’s a two-time world champion for a reason and I’m just happy that we got to fight."
Khan, meanwhile, is expected to retire following his sixth career defeat.
“It could be the time, I need to speak with my family. I just feel like I couldn’t get in a groove, it’s something I need to think about," he said.
“The better man won, he put on a great performance tonight and there’s no disrespect to him because he came out to win.
“It was one of the best atmospheres I’ve ever fought in, the fans came out to watch a great fight and they got what they paid for.”
