Keir Starmer shares toast with Claudia Schiffer at glitzy state banquet

Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Claudia Schiffer shared a toast at a glitzy Christmas state banquet on Wednesday night.

The pair sat beside one another for the evening at Windsor Castle, hosted by King Charles, where politicians, business leaders and celebrities mingled.

Dressed in a glamorous black dress with gold embellishments, the former super model shared words with the Prime Minister as they raised their glasses for the toast.

Schiffer was recognised on the table setting as Lady Vaughan, a title she received after her husband, British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, was given a knighthood earlier this year for services to the creative industries.

The celebration came as part of German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier’s state visit to the UK.

The visit is the first from Germany in 27 years. Mr Steinmeier and his wife, Elke Budenbender, marked the occasion with ceremonial visits and an address to the UK parliament before they attended the banquet.

In his speech, King Charles spoke directly about the need for Western allies to stand up for Ukraine against Russia's invasion.

"The United Kingdom and Germany together stand with Ukraine and bolster Europe against the threat of further Russian aggression," the King told the banquet.

Senior royals were in attendance, including Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Princess Royal and the Duke of Duchess of Edinburgh.

Kate wore one of Queen Victoria's tiaras, made of diamonds and rubies and designed by her husband, the German-born Prince Albert.

The banquet was attended by 152 guests in a seasonally-decorated St George's Hall, with a 20ft (6m) Christmas tree covered in thousands of lights.

Food was washed down with four specially selected wines, and after dinner, guests were served a black forest gateau-themed cocktail.

Guests dined on a menu prepared by royal chefs and served on historic dinner sets.
