Katy Perry has said the months following her break-up from ex-fiance Orlando Bloom were “probably the hardest time”.
The pop singer, 41, and the actor, 49, broke up in 2025 after nine years together. The former couple share a daughter, Daisy Dove.
Perry was in Australia when news of the couple’s split became public.
She told People magazine: “My friends were all hanging out back home. I was crying and just feeling far away. But then my angels went to work. They really showed up.”
Perry met her current boyfriend, former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau, mere weeks after her split from Bloom became public.
Speaking further about her break-up from Bloom, she said: “I wouldn’t have stayed in something for nine years if there wasn’t really important things to learn. Each relationship is a teacher, right?
“I had to let it go so I could move forward. I always wanted this epic legendary love, and I was talking to my therapist about it: Everything in my life is epic, but this is kind of the missing puzzle piece — then it showed up.”
Bloom spoke about the former couple’s split during an appearance on the Today show, saying he and Perry have a good relationship.
He said: “I’m great, man. I’m so grateful. We have the most beautiful daughter. We’re great. We’re going to be great. Nothing but love.”
Perry and Trudeau were first photographed in July 2025 on a dog walk in a park in Montreal, Canada.
Trudeau was later seen at Perry’s concert in Montreal.
Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Gregoire, legally separated in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage. They share joint custody of their three children.
