Katie Taylor v Amanda Serrano talks hit "a little bit of a rocky patch"

Eddie Hearn says talks for Katie Taylor's mega-fight with Amanda Serrano hit "a little bit of a rocky patch" recently.

The Matchroom boss had hoped to officially confirm the bout this week, but has now revealed it could be the start of next month before it is announced.

He told the DAZN Boxing Show: “Standby, you’re not going to get it on this fight, but I'd like to think next week we can give you some great news.

“It was plain sailing, it was too good, it hit a little bit of a rocky patch but we’re almost through that now.

“Everyone wants what they feel is fair for their fighter. They clashed a little bit. It got a little bit spicy but we got some sensible heads on it over the weekend, but let’s not mess this up now. This is the greatest thing to happen in female boxing.”

Hearn has been involved in negotiations with YouTuber Jake Paul for the fight and previously praised his involvement.

The promoter said: "He's been really good.

"It's just a big fight, it's just gearing up many different things and we've been in a good place for a long time. It's very finer details now that I expect to get solved this week.

"He's going to be a massive asset to this fight, because this fight is for history."

On the fight itself, Hearn added: "It's the moment women's boxing gets accepted as boxing to the wider global audience.

"This is much bigger than the biggest female fight of all time, this is a game-changing moment.

"When Katie came into my office seven years ago, this is what we've been working towards - that moment where the world stops for women's boxing."

The pair are set to finally clash in April after the fight was cancelled twice in 2020.

Speaking on the bout after her December win over Firuza Sharipova, Taylor said: "I think this fight is a genuine 50-50 fight. She's going to believe that she's going to win 100% and so am I.

"This is what makes the best fights in boxing. She genuinely believes that she's going to win the fight. She's obviously very experienced, she has a huge knockout ratio, she's one of the most known female fighters in the world."
