Katie Price 's family have blamed her downfall and mental health struggles on her split with first husband Peter Andre.
The former glamour model is set to open up about her demons in a brand new Channel 4 documentary, Katie Price: Trauma and Me.
In the show, the former glamour model talks candidly about living with PTSD and her daily battles with the "demon" inside her. Katie's mum and stepdad say her struggles date back to 2009 when she split with Peter Andre.
Katie, 44, shares two children with the 49-year-old Mysterious Girl singer — Junior, 17, and Princess, 15.
The former couple separated more than a decade ago after three-and-a-half years of marriage. Katie's stepdad Paul said she faced a lot of criticism following the divorce, which he blames for her struggles.
"I think her downfall has to start from the divorce with Pete.
"From that moment, all she got was backlash, backlash, backlash and I find it quite hurtful. I’m not saying she’s an angel, but I think she deserves better.
"I can understand why she’s got [poor] mental health. It’s hard," he says in the documentary.
Katie has previously admitted she never wanted to split from Peter, who she met filming i'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2004.
She has also strenuously denied cheat rumours that have followed her for years, insisting she was never unfaithful to the singer.
" I would have stayed married to the first one. I believe in getting married and staying with them forever," she told New! magazine in 2021.
Peter ha since moved on with NHS doctor Emily MacDonagh , with whom he shares children Theo and Amelia.
After her break-up with Peter, Katie has experienced a slew of failed romances and marriages from Kieran Hayler to Kris Boyson.
Her new documentary, Trauma and Me is set to follow Katie through the aftermath of her drink-driving crash last year.
It opens with the TV personality getting ready for court, where she narrowly avoided jail and was handed a 16-week suspended sentence and two-year driving ban.
However, Katie said her legal woes are not to blame for her mental health battle , which she said had begun years before.
"I hit a severe depression a couple of years ago, depression on top of PTSD. I was suicidal, I didn’t want to be here," she says.
Katie adds that she has a "demon" inside her, saying: "When I’m having a down moment it comes out. But I’ve got to keep it at bay because it knows.
"It got me one time when I was weak and it can always be there, it’s controlling it."
She then says she once attempted to take her own life and insists the only thing which kept her alive were her five children.
As well as Junior and Princess, Katie is mum to Harvey, 20, Jett, nine, and Bunny, eight.
In her TV show, she says: "The hardest thing I’ve had to deal with in the recent months is having limited access to some of my kids.
"Recent events have meant I’m seeing my youngest children less and the relationship between me and their father has broken down."
The relationship between Katie and her ex-husband Kieran Hayler, 35, worsened when she breached her restraining order against Kieran’s fiancée Michelle Penticost by sending her a text message branding her a "gutter s**g".
