Katie McCabe suffers injury scare in Ireland's final World Cup warm-up game

Katie McCabe suffered an injury scare during Ireland's final World Cup warm-up game at Tallaght Stadium this evening.

McCabe was substituted in the 30th minute of the game having twice gone down holding her foot.

The Irish skipper went to ground in the 14th minute after an innocuous-looking incident which saw her play a pass to Kyra Carusa up front.

McCabe immediately grimaced after playing the pass and spent a couple of minutes on the ground being seen to by medical staff.

The 27-year-old carried on for another 15 minutes or so before eventually being replaced by Izzy Atkinson in the 30th minute.

The sight of McCabe hobbling off will no doubt worry Vera Pauw who will be desperate to call upon her captain when Ireland kick-off their campaign against hosts Australia on July 20th.

Irish fans should take comfort in the fact that McCabe was involved in a similar incident with Arsenal a couple of months ago. She was substituted late on against Bayern Munich after suffering a foot injury and was seen wearing a protective boot after the game.

McCabe bounced back from this injury, which she described on the Second Captains Podcast this week as her most painful injury since breaking her leg as a teenager, and featured for Arsenal against Manchester City just four days later when she scored the WSL goal of the season.
