Katie Holmes has dismissed claims that her daughter Suri Cruise has become a millionaire through a trust fund established by her Hollywood star father, Tom Cruise.
The Dawson’s Creek star took to social media to label the reports as “completely false”.
Holmes, 45, responded to the rumours in an Instagram post, where she wrote: “You can stop making stuff up.”
Alongside her post, she added the caption, “Enough.”
In the comment section, Holmes agreed with a fan who suggested such fabrications “should be against the law.”
Responding to another user, she wrote: “Hey, are you worried if you can pay your rent AND eat this month? No? Yeah, me either I wish these were my problems.”
Holmes replied: “I don’t disagree,” Holmes wrote. “But in today’s world, I don’t want my child to be a target. It’s dangerous.”
Holmes and Cruise, who were married from 2006 to 2012, welcomed Suri in April 2006. Holmes filed for divorce from the Top Gun actor in June 2012 after five years of marriage.
Holmes has previously spoken about the challenges of raising her daughter, 18, in the public eye.
In an April 2023 interview with Glamour, she said: “What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her. I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person.”
Holmes has encouraged her daughter to participate in her creative projects. Suri contributed vocals to the opening credits of Holmes’s 2022 film Alone Together and sang again for her 2023 movie Rare Objects.
“I hope she always does something in my films. I always ask her,” Holmes said. “It comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly.
“That’s how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.”
