Kate Moss became one of the world’s most famous models after being spotted 35 years ago at New York’s JFK airport aged 14. But now she says she’s looking to step away from her work as a supermodel and focus on her wellness brand instead.
“I’d like to concentrate on [the brand] and not have to do the modelling any more,” Moss says. “I don’t really want to just turn up and be the ‘face of’,” she adds. “I want to be in control”.
Moss has launched beauty and wellness brand Cosmoss in the mould of Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop and Lady Bamford’s Daylesford, and is very hands-on. “A lot of people with brands, they just put their name on it,” Moss tells the FT’s How to Spend It magazine. “I put my money into it. I own it”. Moss also started a modelling agency last year, where she has her daughter Lila Grace and other family friends on the books.
How Eurovision cut it in Islington
There was confusion in Islington on Saturday when a mysterious sign was tacked to the door of a barber shop. “Closing at 2pm as I’m playing bass for Croatia in the Eurovision final,” read a note in A Nod Is As Good As A Wink, a well-reviewed spot in Angel. Later that night, Croatia’s act, Let 3, pictured, did an eccentric tune stripping down to their underwear. Their song, Mama ŠÄ!, was widely interpreted as an anti-war piece, mocking Russia’s Vladimir Putin. It came 13th. “I’m rarely lost for words,” was JK Rowling’s review of their act. Some people getting haircuts this week will be inspecting their barber in the mirror.
The next Bond?
There’s buzz around Aaron Taylor-Johnson, right, replacing Daniel Craig as James Bond. It would make him one of the most famous names to come out of High Wycombe since James Corden (who is not thought to be in the running). US site Page Six is adding to rumours, reporting a decision could be made this spring, and a slew of hopefuls are trying on the tuxedo in auditions at Pinewood studios. Does it fit?
UK’s glory days are over, says ex-Foreign Office boss
Former head of the Foreign Office Simon McDonald says the UK is now “mostly a soft power player” in world affairs. Last year McDonald played a part in the downfall of Boris Johnson, writing a letter contradicting the PM’s account of the Chris Pincher affair. Now he tells the New Statesman we have dropped out of the “great game” of world politics. Aren’t civil servants supposed to talk up their country?
Last night in town
Bafta took over the town this weekend, with presenter Cat Deeley and photographer Misan Harriman going to an Apple TV+ Brunch at 180 The Strand on Saturday ahead of the awards. Also there were actors Antonia Thomas, Amy Jackson, Andy Serkis and Lorraine Ashbourne. After the bash last night, model Isan Elba and thesps Jasmine Jobson and Karla-Simone Spence were an after party hosted by Jasmine Hobson at Shoreditch House.
