The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, was once 'left in floods of tears' on New Year's Eve after Prince William cancelled their plans. Back in 2006, before they were married, the couple were believed to have had plans for the New Year, but Kate was left in tears fearing for the future of her relationship with Prince William.
According to the Book, The Making of a Royal Romance, royal author Katie Nicholl claims William had promised Kate he would join her family but decided to stay with his family instead, reports The Mirror. Prince William broke this news to Kate on Boxing Day, it's claimed.
In the 2011 book, Katie writes: "William had been having second thoughts and sat down with his father and his grandmother to have a frank discussion about his future with Kate. Both advised him not to hurry into anything.”

However, a few weeks later, in 2007, sources said the Queen was disappointed as the couple briefly split up. The breakup was short-lived, as William and Kate were spotted kissing at an army party at barracks in Bovington, Dorset, a few weeks later.
Months later, in July, Kate, along with her brother James, were spotted at a concert held at Wembley. The concert was to mark 10 years since Princess Diana’s death.
After it was confirmed that the royal couple were back together, Kate moved in with William at the Clarence house flat. Then the couple announced their engagement in 2010 and married in April 2011.
Prince William and Princess Kate have now been married for almost 12 years and have three children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
