Kate Middleton fans have been left wondering whether the Duchess of Cambridge will be expanding her family soon after her brother posted a cryptic comment online. James Middleton, the 35-year-old younger brother of the Duchess of Cambridge, recently shared the heartwarming news that his beloved dog Mabel had given birth to eight puppies, all of whom were healthy.
While James has said that seven of Mabel's puppies have already found 'wonderful homes', the entrepreneur teased that there was 'some very exciting news for one which I look forward to sharing soon'. Fans have began speculating that the remaining puppy may be finding itself roaming the Windsor estate, with the Cambridges potentially adopting it after moving to their new home in Berkshire.
James gifted the Cambridges their two-year-old black cocker spaniel, Orla, back in 2020. The royal pooch made her first public appearance in May of this year, in a photograph taken to commemorate Princess Charlotte's seventh birthday. Orla joined the Cambridges in 2020, shortly after the death of Lupo.
Lupo had been featured in a number of royal photographs over the years, including the well-known photograph of Kate, William, and George following the birth of the prince, and, a few years later, in a photograph taken of Prince George on one of his first birthdays. Annoucing Lupo's devastating death on Instagram in November 2020, the Cambridges shared a photograph of the black cocker spaniel sitting down, looking into the distance.
They wrote: "Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away. He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much. - W & C."
Just like Orla, Lupo had a family connection as he was bred from Kate's parents' dog, Ella. During his time as the Cambridges' beloved companion, Lupo was photographed making memories with his family, including walking with them on the beach; the royal pooch even had a series of children's books written about him, titled: 'The Adventures of Lupo'.
The Royal Family are known for their love of dogs, especially the Queen, whose love of corgis has been highly documented. Her Majesty even invented a dog breed after crossing one of her corgis with Princess Margaret's dachshund, Pipkin - the dorgi. If one of Mabel's puppies is going to go home with the Cambridges, it will be the first golden retriever the family has had.
