Kate Middleton and Prince William's new life in Windsor - houses, schools and neighbours

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are reportedly eyeing up a move to Windsor to be closer to the Queen.

It's said they've already started looking for places to live after checking out several royal residences and are also considering private property.

And in addition, they're also said to have visited schools in the surrounding area for their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The family currently split their time between Kensington Palace in London and Amner Hall in Norfolk.

But a move to Windsor would see them be closer to some relatives - not least the Queen, who now spends much of her time at Windsor Castle.

So what could the Cambridge's Windsor life end up looking like? Here we take a look...

A place to live

If a move to Windsor is to go ahead, one of the first things that William and Kate need to arrange is somewhere to live.

And there are a number of royal properties on the Windsor Estate that could provide the perfect family home - but there are snags.

For example, Royal Lodge, which would reportedly suit the Cambridges is currently occupied by Prince Andrew and ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.

The sprawling Fort Belvedere is occupied as is Adelaide Cottage, while a move into apartments in Windsor Castle has also been ruled out, according to the Sun.

This has apparently led the royal couple to consider moving into a private property in Windsor.

Moving to Windsor would also mean the Cambridges are a lot closer to their royal and non-royal relatives.

Of course, Windsor Castle is where the Queen spends most of her time now - and living on the doorstep means William, Kate and the kids could pop in more often to see the monarch.

It would reportedly mean a lot to the elderly monarch to have them nearby and from a strategic perspective it would put William nearer to the action when discussing royal matters.

William has a close relationship with his grandmother and would often have tea with her when he was a pupil at nearby Eton College.

Another royal that lives in Windsor is William's younger cousin Princess Eugenie along with her husband Jack Brooksbank and their young son August.

The trio live in Frogmore Cottage, which was previously lived in by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle before they moved to America.

Meanwhile, a move to Windsor would also see them nearer Kate's parents Carole and Michael, who are based not far away in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

Schools for children

It may seem like just yesterday that George and Charlotte clutched their parents' hands as they arrived for their first days at school at St Thomas's Battersea.

But this year, as George turns nine in July, it is claimed a change in his school could happen as early as this September - with Charlotte set to change schools later.

There are apparently four schools in the running for George and according to the Daily Mail, the front-runner is Lambrook, near Ascot.

It reports that William and Kate have been seen visiting the school "multiple times" - with William even chatting to one pupil about Latin classes.

The £25k-a-year school has a golf course and a pig farm and is described as "pretty bucolic". The fact that it caters for boys and girls means Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis could both also attend the school in the future.

Other school options include William's former prep school Ludgrove, which Prince Harry also attended, and Kate's former school St Andrew's, with the duchess once describing her time there as "happiest years of my life".

Meanwhile, another school William and Kate are said to have looked at is Papplewick in Ascot.

The school accommodates nearly 200 boys from the ages of six to 13 and in 2019 was named UK Prep School of the Year by Tatler.

According to the Mail, while visiting the school, one pupil told Kate that "she looked just like the Duchess of Cambridge".
