Kate Middleton and Prince William offer sneak peek inside cosy Kensington Palace home

Most of us can only dream about what it is like to live in a grand castle or a luxury palace.

But the Prince and Princess of Wales have lifted the lid on what it's like behind palace walls by offering a sneak peek inside their London home.

Although they spend most of their time at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor, they also have use of Kensington Palace, which is their official residence and London base.

And in a slick new YouTube video featuring behind-the-scenes footage of them and their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis from the Coronation weekend, they have provided a sneak peek inside their cosy-looking palace home.

It shows William, Kate, Charlotte and Louis appearing in what appears to be a living room after getting ready on the morning of the big day.

And the clip shows that the room is like many others across the country - as it is filled with family photos and mementoes.

Among the heartwarming images are one of Charlotte to mark her fourth birthday and another of Louis released for his first birthday, which can be seen as Kate enters the room.

In another shot as Charlotte and Louis gaze out of the window, a framed photo can be seen of Kate's proud parents Carole and Michael on her wedding day.

However, one thing that most probably don't have in their homes is a portrait of Princess Juliane of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, which also hangs on one of the walls.

The princess was an aunt of Queen Victoria, who was also a previous resident at Kensington Palace.

William and Kate have only shared small glimpses inside their home at Kensington Palace in the past, with their sleeping quarters strictly off-limits.

However, they did once give an insight into what the bedrooms of George and Charlotte might look like.

During a visit to Sweden's national museum of architecture and design in Stockholm in 2018, they revealed they had some Ikea furniture.

However, despite it being Waleses' London home, Kensington Palace has also accommodated the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke and Duchess of Kent and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry also used to live there, in Nottingham Cottage, before moving to Windsor, and then Canada and LA. Parts of the palace are also open for the public to visit.

Speaking about Kensington Palace on previous episode True Royalty's Royal Beat, the late royal author Christopher Warwick said : "It has 20 rooms from the basement to the attic, it is not a small house.

"All of these royal residences at Kensington Palace are called apartments, which of course makes people immediately think they are flats like the American term for an apartment.

"They are not. If you think of Kensington Place in a way it is built around three courtyards. If you kind of think of them as being these wonderful red brick terrace houses. Because they are all joined, but separate houses."
