Kate Middleton admits ‘big pressure’ of choosing names for George, Charlotte and Louis

The Princess of Wales has admitted that she felt a ‘big pressure’ when picking out the names of her three children with Prince William .

Kate spoke to patients in the maternity unit during a visit to the Royal Surrey Hospital in Guildford yesterday, as part of her ongoing focus on early years care in her royal role. In her first major solo engagement since receiving her new title, the princess held a tiny premature baby during her tour of the hospital’s special care baby unit.

In a later conversation with hospital staff, Kate opened up about the daunting process of choosing names for her children as part of the Royal Family . She touched on the added weight of selecting names for George, Charlotte and Louis while being in the public eye, The Mirror reports .

Amy Stubbs, deputy director of midwifery at the hospital, told People.com that Kate had shared the insight into her life as a mum during the visit. She said: “She just really talked about her own children including how they chose their names.

“A lot of the new mums and dads are thinking about how to choose names for their babies, and they spoke with her about how Kate and William made their choice. She said they were their favourite names and that obviously the world was waiting for them to name their children — and that felt like quite a big pressure!”

Kate also reminisced about her children’s early days as she chatted with patients, admitting that she still considers four-year-old Prince Louis her baby. “It just feels like yesterday,” she said.

She shared her memories of giving birth as she visited the postnatal ward to speak to mothers who had welcomed babies within the last 24 hours. “No matter how much everyone tells you what you expect, it's a shock to the system isn't it?” she asked. “You have this idea of what will happen but every single birth is different.”

Deputy director Amy added that it was “really joyful” and “hugely validating” to have the princess visit the hospital. “She spent a lot of time talking to a lot of the staff and meeting mums and dads and new babies across the whole service,” she praised Kate.
