Kate Garraway said she still gets tearful when watching the emotional moment Derek hugged his son for the first time since he contracted covid.
A new documentary is set to air tonight charting her husband's gruelling road to recovery after falling seriously ill.
Caring for Derek captures the poignant embrace as Billy welcomes his dad home after 374 days in hospital.

Kate discussed the footage on Tuesday's edition of Good Morning Britain and revealed it was the first time Derek could outstretch his arms.
She said: "That's just an extraordinary moment you see from the documentary here.
"I didn't actually see this until I watched the footage. It's the first moment that Derek moves his arm.
"Its makes me cry now. This is the day he came home back in April '21.
"As Bill goes forward there, he moves his arm towards him. That is the first moment we seen him be able to activate a movement prompted by emotion. Not just someone going can you move your arm to the left or right."
The ITV documentary gives an insight into Kate's daily routine as she helps care for her husband since his return home from hospital.
A preview clip showed Kate assisting a carer as Derek gets out of bed - and the broadcaster revealed she has to change her husband's bed sheets up to seven times a day.
She said: "I think it's just a symbol really of how everything is just scaled up by a hundred."
Kate Garraway: Caring For Derek airs tonight at 9pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
