Kate Garraway shares fan's 'clever' solution to energy price cap rise

Amid news that energy prices are set to soar again, Kate Garraway shared a fan's idea to solve the problem - and many people are all for it.

Earlier today (Friday), Ofgem confirmed the energy price cap will increase from the current £1,971 to £3,549 from October 1.

The current price cap was last adjusted in April this year, rising from £1,277 to £1,971 per year on average. Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has previously warned that Britain will face a dire winter as the prices continue to spiral.

New figures will devastate households who are already struggling to make ends meet. The news comes just days after inflation rose to more than 10% - a forty year high.

The Government has said support will continue to "reach people’s pockets in the weeks and months ahead, targeted at those who need it most like low-incomes households, pensioners and those with disabilities". But with so many struggling, millions are calling on those in charge to do more to help.

Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway broke the news during this morning's show. She continued: "The contest to decide the next Conservative leader and prime minister reaches its final stages, so pressure is mounting for a solution."

Taking to Twitter after the show concluded, the 55-year-old then shared a fan's idea to solve the problem.

The social media user, named Oliver, said "It would be cheaper if our government introduced a mass production of solar panels for our houses. It would create 1000’s of jobs".

Kate added: "Hmmm - any thoughts anyone?", and her followers replied in droves. Steve said: "Totally agree! Australia is running a trial with solar panels that can be printed on household printers!"

Simon said: "I think it's a great idea", while Rachel said: "Very clever idea. Unfortunately the word 'clever' doesn't come up when describing those in power in the UK". A30Tyres said: "Should be introduced on all new builds immediately as well as incentives to existing house holders. At the moment the cost is out of reach of many."
