Kate Garraway has fleetingly revealed that her family suffered 'another crisis', appearing to confirm that her husband Derek Draper had another recent stint in hospital. The presenter was back at the helm on Good Morning Britain on Friday (December 23) when she made the comment.
As fans of Kate and GMB viewers know, her husband Derek became critically ill after contracting coronavirus in March 2020 and is still facing serious and devasting consequences today. The former political advisor is believed to be the worst-affected living Covid patient in the UK after spending 13 months in hospital between March 2020 and April 2021.
The dad-of-two returned to the family's North London home where he now receives round-the-clock care but has been unable to fully communicate, has issues with mobility, and has struggled with major health problems. And in recent months Derek has suffered setbacks in his recovery.
Back in October, Kate shared how Derek had landed back in hospital after contracting life-threatening sepsis. She told The Sun at the time: "Derek is back in hospital after developing sepsis that again threatened his life and we are again fighting to get him home."
She then said just a few weeks ago during an appearance on ITV's Lorraine that Derek was back home. "You know, it is an onslaught — it is a long onslaught," Kate told Lorraine Kelly about Derek's recovery. "I can see he has better days; he has worse days — he's thankfully at home now. It's been a long battle to get him back home again. I think it's very tough on him but it's very tough on the people around me."
But while appearing on Friday's GMB, it appears Kate suffered another hospital dash with Derek. While co-hosting the programme with Ben Shephard, the pair were joined by entertainment reporter Richard Arnold who was able to share his behind-the-scenes clips from the Princess of Wales' royal carol concert which airs on ITV on Saturday (Christmas Eve).
As they chatted about the Royal Carols: Together At Christmas event, which took place earlier this month at Westminster Abbey, Kate shared how was meant to attend the concert with her father, which he was really looking forward to, but had to pull out as she "unfortunately ended up in the hospital with another crisis".
Kate did not confirm who was in the hospital but she did share how gutted she was to miss out on attending the service as she had really enjoyed being there in person last year and her dad was excited about it too. It comes after Kate admitted to being 'frazzled' as she prepared for for Christmas with her family.
The mum-of-two took to Instagram earleir this week as she revealed at being able to transport a 6ft Christmas tree all the way home in her car boot. Sharing a series of snaps to the social media platform on Tuesday, Kate 55, could be seen posing in front of her car, aka 'Percy the Peugeot', as she gleefully gripped onto the festive staple.
"So they say it takes a village to raise a child .. but how many does it take to 'raise' a Christmas tree," the TV and radio star started to type alongside her post. She went on to mock their, successful, efforts to transport their festive fur from the shop to their home by writing: "Well in my case (altogether now sing along)… 5 exasperated shop workers, 4 helpful neighbours, 3 frazzled parents, 2 over excited kids & NOT a partridge in a pear tree, but a #peugeot308sw with a surprisingly large boot."
"Even my own mother didn’t believe I could get a 6 foot tree in but I knew my Percy Peugeot wouldn’t let me down!! Swipe right to see finished result!" Kat then added: "So worth it to see the kids so happy - at last ready for #christmas - well 'ish'."
