Kate Garraway breaks down in tears on GMB as she says star has 'finished her off'

Kate Garraway broke down in tears after a huge star performed on Good Morning Britain.

The presenter got emotional after Eurovision winner Sam Ryder performed a heartfelt acoustic version of his new song Fought & Lost in the ITV studio.

As the camera cut back to Kate, who was sat next to co-host Ben Shephard, she was seen wiping away tears.

“Have you gone?” Ben asked, before Kate – clearly surprised at her own reaction – said: “Oh my God. That has floored me.”

Composing herself, the 56-year-old TV star told Sam: “The lyrics and that voice. Sam, you’ve finished me off!”

“Bless you, thank you,” Sam replied as he told fans he would be performing more gigs later this year.

Sam’s new track also features Queen legend Brian May and will appear in an episode of award-winning American comedy-drama series Ted Lasso.

The hit show follows American football coach Ted (played by Jason Sudeikis) who is hired to coach an English soccer team.

Set in Richmond, south west London, it also stars actors Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Juno Temple.

GMB star Kate’s emotional moment comes in the same week she was awarded an MBE by Prince William.

She was recognised for her services to broadcasting, journalism and her charity work.

Proud husband Derek Draper, who is still suffering the effects of long Covid, proudly looked on as his wife received the accolade at Windsor Castle.

Kate revealed afterwards that it was Derek who saved her from an embarrassing slip-up as she collected her award from the Prince of Wales.

Recalling the awkward moment on Good Morning Britain Kate admitted she failed to recognise other famous faces who were receiving awards that day.

She shared: "I was walking along pushing Derek through and we walked past somebody, a very dashing young man and a beautiful girl and I was taken with her and her lovely outfit so I said, 'Congratulations.'"

"As we went past, Derek said, 'That's Gareth Bale,' and I said, 'Oh was it?'" Kate added before going back to speak to the legendary Welsh footballer.

The TV host continued: "Later, I spoke to a different group of people and told them, 'I've just made a total fool of myself and not recognised Gareth Bale and then started chatting to them, 'Which of you are [receiving an honour]?'"

Kate realised she had made a slip-up again by failing to recognise Liverpool defender Andy Robertson, who was recognised for his services to football and charity.

"I said, 'I've just made a fool of myself' and he said, 'Well you've done it with me too,'' she added.

Kate admitted it was "shameful" and said her 17-year-old daughter Darcy was "furious".

Speaking about being awarded an MBE, Kate said she felt a bit "awkward" but was "honoured" to receive it.

She said: "I actually feel very awkward about it all really, I don't know why, because I'm thrilled to bits and incredibly honoured.

"But you just sort of think 'What? Me?', and then you think it's not real."
