Kate Forbes has admitted that while Scotland has a reputation for creating successful start-up businesses, scaling those up in this country has been more challenging.
The Finance and Economy Secretary was brought before the Economy and Fair Work Committee to address questions about her recently-published National Strategy for Economic Transformation.
When answering questions about measuring the delivery of the 10-year plan, she said this is vital, adding: "Where we are not performing like we should is when it comes to scale-ups, there's much to celebrate in entrepreneurial activity, but in terms of business survival rates there is a problem - we don't perform as well as Ireland for instance."
