Kate Ferdinand has shared a rare snap of her son as he prepares to become a big brother after detailing a scary hospital dash. The former The Only Way is Essex star, who is expecting her second child with her husband Rio Ferdinand, revealed over the weekend how she was an 'emotional wreck' after her son Cree was suffered a 'freak accident.'
Kate, 31, took to Instagram to explain why she had been quiet on social media and shared how the toddler had broken a bone in his finger and needed surgery. The doting mum shared a heartbreaking picture of her son's tiny hand decorated with a teddy bear plaster on her Instagram Story.
"Sorry for the radio silence, my poor baby had a freak accident on Tuesday and ended up breaking a bone in his finger and then needed nail bed surgery, " Kate wrote. "I'm a complete emotional wreck mumma right now," she added before sharing her heartache: "Look at his little hand."
Kate has since returned to Instagram and shared a string of snaps from her second pregnancy so far. The mum-of-two-to-be, who announced she and former Manchester United star Rio, 44, were expecting back in January, typed out a candid message alongside the images as she reflected on pregnancy.
The series of images started with a sweet snap of her toddler Cree kissing her bare baby bump as she lounged at home in her pyjamas. "Let's talk pregnancies. I was scrolling through my phone for pictures of this pregnancy & these ones sum it up, work, chill & family time," Kate started alongside a red heart emoji.
The former reality star continued: "I only realise now looking back that during my pregnancy with Cree, I put so much pressure on myself for everything to be 'perfect'. I was really worried about my changing & growing body & just didn't embrace my pregnancy at all like this one.
"I've really learnt to listen to my body & found the strength to say no to things that are going to be too much. My priorities are my health, family & work … & rather than try to please everyone, if it feels too much, I just say no. The same with exercise, you all know I love to workout but if my body is giving me signs to slow down I just do, I really am embracing the slow days where possible & taking the pressure off myself is maybe one of the best things I’ve ever done. My baby girl is teaching me so much already and I love it."
She also asked her followers if they'd had the same revelation after their first time being pregnant. Kate became a doting step-mum to his children Lorenz, 16, Tate, 14, and Tia, 11, after the couple got together in 2017. Rio had tragically lost his first wife Rebecca Ellison to breast cancer in May 2015 at the age of 34.
Kate has recently revealed how she plans to have a C-section, after she was forced to have an emergency one when giving birth to Cree in 2020. Speaking on the Motherkind podcast, she said: "I'm having a C-section because I had to have an emergency one last time, and that's OK.
"Last time, I had an emergency C-section, and I had all the way pushing and then it went wrong. I've kind of had both births [already]… I think I know what I'm doing and I'm hopeful that it might be easier," she added to host Zoe Blaskey.
