BENGALURU: The textbook revision committee has recommended omission of the introductory part to the chapter, Rise of New Religions, from the social science textbook of class 8 and suggested the inclusion of information on Sanatana Dharma.
The introduction for chapter 6 in the class 8 social science textbook mentions that during the Vedic period, rituals like homa and havana, in which large quantities of foodgrains, milk and ghee were used, led to food scarcity. It also speaks about rituals like animal sacrifice. The chapter says common people could not follow Sanskrit language, leading to emergence of new religions like Buddhism and Jainism, which taught simple ways.
