BENGALURU: The Congress on Thursday alleged al-Qaida has deliberately waded into the hijab controversy in Karnataka to polarise people. It said the banned terrorist organisation has no business commenting about India’s internal affairs.
“Let me make it amply clear and in most unequivocal terms that we condemn al-Qaida’s statement,” party general secretary Ajay Maken told reporters here.
He accused the BJP and right-wing organisations of trying to ‘polarise’ and ‘vitiate’ the atmosphere of Karnataka with an eye on the 2023 assembly elections. Whether it’s the BJP or al-Qaeda, Maken said, whoever is trying to polarise is not only vitiating the atmosphere, but is also damaging the state’s economy.
“Karnataka has a composite culture and that is why Bengaluru and the state is the most-favoured destination for businessmen and investors throughout the world,” he added.
