Karnataka: Mills could sell rice in 30 kg bags to avoid 5% GST

BENGALURU: Rice mills in Karnataka may do away with selling the cereal in bags weighing up to 25kg to avoid GST. They are likely to switch to 30kg bags. The Centre introduced a 5% tax on rice sold in bags weighing 25kg or less with effect from Monday.

There are about 1,800 rice mills in the state, mostly located in Koppal, Gangavati and Raichur districts.
