Karnataka: Mild tremors reported in Sullia taluk

MANGALURU: People at Aranthodu village in Sullia taluk in Dakshina Kannada district, about 110 km from here, experienced mild tremors on Sunday. Sullia tahsildar Anitha Lakshmi said that an earthquake of magnitude 1.8 on the Richter scale was reported in Aranthodu gram panchayat at 6.30 am. The epicentre is about 1.1 km south-east of Aranthodu gram panchayat. The intensity observed is low, and has not caused any damage, she said.

Sources said that the tremors were felt in places in Aranthodu, Thodikana, Chembu, Kallapalli and Sampaje, bordering Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu. People have shared details about the tremors through social media posts, and claimed that they heard a loud sound. The taluk has experienced mild tremors at least eight times so far, since the last week of June. It is for the second time, that the epicentre is in the district.
