MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada district police have arrested three persons during a raid on an illegal IPL betting racket in Vittal police station limits, late evening on Monday.
Dakshina Kannada SP Rishikesh Sonawane said the arrested are Karunakar, Sharath Kumar and Avinash.
He said the police received information at about 9 pm that IPL cricket betting was taking place at a public place in Kudriya in Kolnad village. When SI Sandeep Kumar Shetty, along with a team, reached the spot at around 9.45 pm, they saw three persons roaming around with mobile phones in their hands and were watching the cricket match on a laptop.
The three persons were immediately taken into custody and on questioning confessed that they were betting during the Lucknow SuperGiants and Sunrisers Hyderabad match. The police then seized a laptop, 11 phones and Rs 14,500. The total value of the items seized is around Rs 47,000 A case has been registered under Section 78(3) of the KP Act
