HUBBALLI: The district administration has decided to strictly implement Covid protocol as cases have risen across the state and district in the past three days.
The district has reported 3-4 cases daily for the past three days. Although, the situation is not alarming, the district administration has reactivated all Covid protocol measures. Deputy commissioner Gurudatta Hegde had called a meeting of all departments on Friday to review the situation and discuss measures to curb the spread of the virus in case of any emergency situation.
On priority, all departments have been asked to launch Covid awareness programmes in the city and rural areas to push people to wear masks, use sanitisers and maintain physical distance. The administration will fine people if they fail to follow Covid rules.
Primary and taluk health centres have been told to keep everything ready such as oxygen supply, Covid care centres, extra beds in case there is a surge.
Hegde told TOI: “We don’t want to take any risk as cases are slowly surging in some parts of the state and the country as well. Now, 1,900 beds are available in the district and we have enough oxygen supply. Besides, a 50-60 bed facility will be made available in each taluk hospital in the case of an emergency.”
The district was conducting 350-400 tests daily and depending on the situation, “we will ramp up the testing capacity. All departments have been asked to have proper coordination and officers have to wear a mask to encourage people to follow Covid norms,” the DC said.
“We have achieved only 50-55% second dose coverage for children between 12-16 years. Health and education departments have been directed to achieve 100% of second dose vaccination. We will appoint nodal officers soon to take care of bed arrangements, oxygen supply and to deal other issues related to Covid in the district, he said.
