BENGALURU: The central BJP leadership has taken serious note of developments stemming from the hijab row in Karnataka and has asked the local leadership and the state government to convey a clear message to stakeholders that the party is not against Muslim women and enforcement of dress code is left to the individual institutions, party functionaries said.
BJP legislators revealed that the high command has asked local leaders to exercise restraint and put in effort to douse the row without hurting the party’s electoral prospects. “The high command has issued an advisory on the situation,” said Y Bharat Shetty, BJP MLA from Mangalore City. “While they have not given any specific instructions about the hijab row, the inference is that the local leadership and the state government should reach out to stakeholders and take them into confidence. ”
