Bengaluru: PM Narendra Modi’s 40-month suburban rail deadline runs into fresh hurdle

BENGALURU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise to complete the suburban rail project — pending for 40 years — in 40 months appears improbable.

There has been no progress on the ground after the fresh deadline was announced during Modi’s visit to the city in June. Work order is yet to be issued to L&T for civil work for the 25km Byappanahalli-Yeshwantpur-Chikkabanavara (Mallige) corridor, though the tender was opened in March 2022. Civil work tenders for the other three suburban corridors are yet to be floated.
