MANGALURU: A vacant plot near the Mangala Stadium that was lying unused has, thanks to the initiative of two environmental warriors, been transformed into a garden that is now attracting a large number of butterflies.
As is the case with a large number of vacant plots, the fate that befell this four-acre site was no different, which was that of an unofficial dumpyard. However, when a walking track was developed inside the plot, environmentalists Ravi Raj Shetty, and MD Sreekumar, took it upon themselves to turn the plot into a sylvan oasis. They started planted saplings of various flowers and fruits, which turned the plot into a colourful garden, which is now home to equally colourful butterflies.
