Karnataka: Covishield doses in private hospitals set to expire in March; no takers

BENGALURU: A minimum of 1 lakh doses of Covishield vaccine in private hospitals across Karnataka are expiring in March, and there are no takers. Hospitals that invested in the doses are at a loss because the government has not diverted or exchanged the stock, leading to wastage, sources said.

At Sparsh Hospital alone, 45,600 doses of Covishield are expiring on March 3. Letters to manufacturer Serum Institute of India yielded no result as the company said they don’t have a retake policy, said Guruprasad BR, director of strategy, Sparsh Hospitals.
