MANGALURU: An official ceremony held as part of the unveiling of the statue of freedom fighter Kedambadi Ramayya Gowda in the city, saw a verbal duel between chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and deputy leader of opposition in assembly UT Khader on Saturday.
Khader in his speech suggested that the history of achievers should not be written based on caste and religion, but should be on ideology and their vision. The Congress leader had also urged the government to name Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) after Rani Abbakka, the first Tuluva queen of Ullal, who fought the Portuguese in the latter half of the 16th century. He urged that the Mangaluru Central railway station should be named after Sri Narayana Guru. Khader also suggested the government not add more castes to the reservation list, under the Backward Classes 2A category.
