Karnataka: Bikers struggle as roads inundated in twin cities

HUBBALLI: Heavy rain, albeit for a brief period, in Hubballi-Dharwad and other places in north Karnataka, threw normal life out of gear on Monday.

Though normal weather condition prevailed in the morning, abrupt changes were witnessed by 11am.

Following brief spells of rain, some roads were flooded with rainwater, because of which motorists, particularly bikers, faced troubles to reach their destination till afternoon.

Areas like Vidyanagar, Girani Chawl, Moorusavir Math, Glass House, Cotton Market, Hosur, Unkal Cross, Railway underbridge, Dajiban Pet, and Durgad Bail were flooded with rainwater following the blockages in drainages.

Many bikers were found towing their two-wheeler in rainwater. Market areas wore a deserted look till afternoon as people did not dare to come out. Cloudy weather prevailed in afternoon and evening hours.

The meteorological department has predicted moderate-to-heavy rain, thunderstorms and lighting in north interior Karnataka over the next 24 hours.
