France coach Didier Deschamps says he does not know if Karim Benzema or any of his other injured players will attend the World Cup Final.
There has been speculation that Benzema, who was part of Deschamps' initial 26-man squad for the tournament but was injured before the opening game, could return to Qatar and be part of the matchday squad against Argentina after he played in a friendly for Real Madrid in midweek.
There were also reports that French President Emmanuel Macron had invited all of France's injured players, including the Madrid forward, to the match as his guests.
Asked about Benzema, Deschamps said on Saturday: "I don't like to reply to this particular question. I know some players have been injured and Karim Benzema is of course one of those.
"Since the beginning of the World Cup, he was injured and Lucas Hernandez got injured in the first game.
"From that point onwards, I had 24 players in my squad. You know who those players are and those are the players at my disposal. So I don't think it's fair to those players to ask about players who aren't here.
"It's not up to me to decide who comes to watch the game, former players or injured players. I don't know who's coming to support the squad and the players at my disposal. We've lost three players, Christopher Nkunku also got injured.
“And Benzema and Lucas Hernandez. We've lost those players from the [initial] squad and now I'm focussing on my 24-man squad and those are the players I'll have at my disposal tomorrow."
Benzema himself appeared to shut down suggestions that he could make a sensational return to the France squad against Argentina with a cryptic Instagram message which simply read: “I’m not interested”.
