Karim Adeyemi makes major Sadio Mane Liverpool transfer claim as Borussia Dortmund move explained

Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi has heaped praise on Sadio Mane but does not want to be lining up against the Liverpool forward as a rival next season.

Mane has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich in the days following the Reds' Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid. The ECHO understands, as of Sunday afternoon, that the Senegal star had not communicated his desire to leave the club, but insiders are braced for contact from Bayern. Liverpool won't listen to any offers below £40million, despite Mane now being inside the final 12 months of his contract, and a replacement will need to be sourced before the 30-year-old will be allowed to leave.

Adeyemi himself is no stranger to transfer speculation, and was tentatively linked with a move to Anfield last summer and in the January window. But it was Dortmund who wrapped up a deal to sign the 20-year-old German forward for a reported £32.5million fee in May.

The former RB Salzburg forward will now fill the void left by Erling Haaland, who signed for Manchester City last month to bring to an end to persistent rumours over his future. Heading in the opposite direction, swapping the Premier League for the Bundesliga, could be Mane - a player Adeyemi is a clear admirer of.

“For me, he is one of the best wingers in the world," he told Sky Germany: "I prefer to see him on the outside than in the centre. He would be an asset to the Bundesliga. Unfortunately with the wrong club!”

Explaining why he chose to sign for Dortmund ahead of other sides, Adeyemi added:" The club has a fast and aggressive style of play. That totally got me. Hopefully I can do something with my speed."
