GOP Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake has unveiled a new coalition called 'Democrats/former Democrats for Kari Lake & America First.' This announcement comes in response to Vice President Kamala Harris' 'Republicans for Harris' initiative and Lake's opponent, Rep. Ruben Gallego's 'Republicans and Independents for Ruben' coalition.
Lake's event, scheduled for Thursday, aims to showcase support from current and former Democrats. She has called on the media to provide equal coverage to her event as they have for Harris and Gallego. Lake emphasized the importance of highlighting the diverse support she has garnered.
On the other hand, Gallego recently received endorsements from 40 Republicans and independents, including individuals who have previously supported Democrats. This move is seen as an attempt to demonstrate his broad appeal across party lines as he competes against Lake in the upcoming November election.
Notably, some of the supporters endorsing Gallego have also backed Harris in the past. This intersection of political endorsements underscores the complexity of bipartisan alliances in the current political landscape.
Meanwhile, the 'Republicans for Harris' initiative, comprising 'Never Trumpers,' was officially launched with the aim of rebranding Harris as a more moderate candidate. The campaign features former Trump White House officials Stephanie Grisham and Olivia Troye among others, as Harris prepares for the presidential election in November.
Lake and Gallego are set to face each other in the general election for Arizona's open Senate seat, currently held by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema. The Cook Political Report rates this Senate seat as 'Lean Democratic,' indicating a competitive race ahead.
