Scottish actress Karen Gillan has tied the knot with stand-up comedian Nick Kocher in a lavish ceremony at Castle Toward, in Dunoon.
The Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers star, 34, married her American boyfriend in a closely guarded event, with a number of A-listers in attendance. These included Julia Roberts and Robert Downey Jnr.
The Inverness-born, all-action hero, whose former boss from her Dr Who days, Steven Moffat, was also in attendance, jetted back to her homeland for her nuptials, which saw Nick decked out in a traditional Scottish kilt, along with his bevvy of groomsmen.
She had also chartered a yacht, The Spirit of Fortitude, to take family and friends to the 3.30pm ceremony. The groom, though, had to be ferried to the 19th-century venue in a dinghy through some rather testing waters.
He told The Sun: “It’s fantastic. I’m looking forward to it and it’s great to be here.”
Karen had kept her engagement to the Saturday Night Live scriptwriter a secret, but locals sussed there was something happening in the area when big names were clocked in Dunoon, in the Argyll and Bute region. One said: “We had seen the yacht moored up, but it was only when someone said Julia Roberts had been seen having breakfast in the Rock Cafe and Robert Downey Jr had been seen going into a shop that we realised there was a celebrity wedding happening.
Another source told The Sun: “They must have spent a fortune. The castle and the private ship were spectacular.”
And one twitter user commented: “I saw Karen Gillan getting married. She looked beautiful.”
Hollywood star Karen started dating Emmy-award winning screenwriter Nick, from Atlanta, two years ago and the pair are believed to live together at her home in Los Angeles. They have also been spotted together on trips to London and Berlin.
The actress is currently starring as Nebula in Thor: Love and Thunder, due to be released in July, while she takes on the same role again in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3, which will come out next year.
The busy star also took the leading part of Carol Cobb in 2022 film The Bubble, and Sarah in Dual, a satirical sci-fi thriller, directed by Riley Stearns. She made her acting debut in Scottish TV drama Rebus back in 2006.
