Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, shared a new song on his Instagram, and in it, the disgraced rapper doubled down on some of his recent controversies.
In the unapologetic track, Ye refers to his ‘death con’ Twitter comment (In October Ye Tweeted “I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE [sic]” – DEFCON is a US Military alert level) and includes a sample from his shocking recent interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.
The track opens with Ye saying, “Wakin’ up to ‘I can’t do this anymore’ texts,” perhaps referring to his divorce from Kim Kardashian. He then seems to refer to the backlash he has been facing of late, saying, “Everyone’s a Karen / Claimin’ that they care.”
Later in the track, Ye repeats, “I forgot what fear is” before saying, “I know ‘cause the headlines why you wanna leave / You knew I follow God, so you should follow me.”
He also raps, “Tweeted ‘death con,’ now we past three” twice.
The most shocking element of the track, however, is that it closes with a sample from his interview with Jones. In the interview, which took place on the far-right conspiracy theory news show InfoWars last week, Ye said: “There’s a lot of things that I love about Hitler.”
In Someday We’ll All Be Free he says, “There’s a lot of things that I love,” but cuts the track off before the word Hitler. It concludes with, “That I love, that I love, that I love...”
The song heavily samples Donny Hathaway’s 1973 Someday We’ll All Be Free. It was not officially released; instead, it was shared on Ye’s Instagram page but has now been deleted. Its caption said: “Censori overload. The variable epitope library from the antigen promotes an immune response in the body.”
The song was also released on InfoWars’ website – it called the song “epic”.
Someday We’ll All Be Free is Ye’s first solo release in months. He released the album Donda 2 in February and has also featured on several single releases this year including Cardi B’s July-released single Hot Shit alongside Lil Durk.
However, over the last few months the musician, who announced his 2024 Presidential campaign, has primarily been embroiled in incidents involving him making antisemitic and racist comments. These incidents resulted in Adidas, Balenciaga and his talent agency cutting ties with him. His deal with Adidas was reportedly worth as much as $1.5 billion.
The rapper was also personally banned from Twitter by Elon Musk last week after posting a picture of a swastika embedded in a Star of David.
