Kanye West seemingly poked fun at failed marriage with Kim Kardashian during a rare public appearance on Sunday,
The rapper, 45, took to the stage at the BET Awards to honour his friend and fellow artist Sean 'Diddy' Combs as the Bad Boy for Life singer was honoured with this year's Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dressed in a zip-up hoodie, cap and face covering, Kanye told those sitting in the audience at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles how Diddy has inspired him over the years throughout his own career - appearing to grow emotional at one point during his speech.
The dad-of-four managed to crack a laugh when he explained how his fellow rapper had even impacted his personal life too.
"I go to [Diddy] for advice to this day," Kanye said on stage. "He inspires so many of my choices. So many of my life choices. My wife choices. And here we are — thanks for that, Puff."
The quip raised a laugh from the audience, with Kanye - who is legally known as Ye - also smirking at his little comment.
Kim, who shares children North, 8, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 2, with Kanye, filed for divorce from the multi award-winning artist in February 2021, after nearly seven years of marriage.
Although their split seemingly began on amicable terms - with Kim even 'remarrying' her ex on stage in August 2021 - things turned sour towards the end of last year when the SKIMS founder struck up a romance with comedian Pete Davidson.
After several social media outbursts from Kanye - and decapitating a claymation version of the Saturday Night Live alum in a music video - Kim went on to confirm she and her estranged husband were no longer talking.
"Right now it's good when things are calm, we don't really communicate, but I think that's okay sometimes," the SKIMS founder admitted on an episode of Not Skinny But Not Fat in April. "We will. We always will. That's just who I am."
Thing appear to be on friendly terms these days, with the aspiring lawyer even publicly wishing Kanye a happy Father's Day earlier this month and crediting the Yeezy founder with helping her design elements of her new skincare line.
Elsewhere in his speech on Sunday, Kanye praised Diddy with breaking down "a lot of doors" for many in the music industry.
"Any of us in this room, if Puff ever need us, we need to jump and be there. This man has been through and survived a lot of stuff. Broke down a lot of doors so we could be standing. I know for me, that I could be here today," the Donda rapper gushed.
"He broke down so many doors of classism, taste, culture, swag. Puff, if I never told you, I love you. You’re my brother."
The BET Awards opened on Sunday night with Lizzo entertaining the crowd with a rendition of one of her latest smash-hits, About Damn Time.
Jack Harlow brought Lil Wayne and Brandy out on stage with him for his debut performance at the awards, just weeks after being caught out admitting her was unaware of Brandy's impact on the music industry.
