Kanye West’s hotly anticipated performance at the upcoming Grammy Awards has been cancelled amid concerns about his ongoing campaign of abuse against ex-wife Kim Kardashian.
The 44-year-old rap sensation was due to take to the stage at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada next month to perform at the star studded ceremony.
But now his performance has been axed following months of shocking social media posts where he has rounded on 41-year-old ex-wife Kim and her 28-year-old boyfriend, Pete Davidson.
Speculation is rife that organisers pulled the plug on Kanye’s appearance amid concerns they could be seen to endorse his outrageous behaviour – which has included him accusing Kim of accusing him of being on drugs, hiring a hit man against her, and for repeated threats against Pete.
Variety confirmed the news on Saturday, witting: “ Kanye West has been barred from performing at the Grammy Awards due to his ‘concerning online behavior’.”
Their report states a representative of the music star: “received a phone call Friday night informing him he had been ‘unfortunately’ removed from the lineup of performers for the show.”
Their report added: “Our sources say Kanye’s team isn’t surprised by the decision.”
Kanye’s 2021 album, titled Donda, is up for five awards including Best Album and will still compete for the gongs despite the musician’s apparent ban from performing on stage.
Fellow musician The Game, real name Jayceon Taylor, has lashed out at the decision – which comes just hours after Kanye was temporarily banned from Instagram due to his explosive social media posts.
The Game has hinted that he suspects Grammy Awards show host Trevor Noah may have blocked the musician from attending.
He wrote online: “The Grammys have at the last minute decided to pull @kanyewest from performing on the show as if we didn’t know it was coming
“Could be because @trevornoah is hosting and there was a conversation held amongst his team & the academy that led to the decision or because Ye’s account was suspended just days ago for reasons unknown especially in a world where all the negativities of the world can be found on the same app with no repercussions or suspensions
“Speak your mind in this country for yourself, family or your people & you’re ostracized immediately & if you push them hard enough they will stop at no ends to try and put an end to you as a whole.
“I can’t sleep at night knowing I was quiet about issues burning holes in my heart or narratives incorrectly pushed by the mass agenda to create a mind set that the person at hand is krazy or has issues internally that are beyond repair.”
