Kanye's Adidas Yeezy Boost 700 sneaker arrives in its brightest blue yet

With summer soon to be in motion, pastels are out and more vibrant colors are in. Adidas Yeezy is gearing up to drop a bright red Yeezy Boost 700 this month — along with plenty of other models — and in turn, an expanded color offering with an even brighter blue version. Dubbed “Hi-Res Blue,” the sneaker marks a step into new design territory, using its namesake shade to bring the shoe to life.

Why so blue? —

Similar to its “Hi-Res Red” counterpart, the shade of blue takes over the sneaker nearly in its entirety. The only places where the color is forgone are on the toe box — which opts for a muted purple tones — the black suede mudguards, and red panels near the forefoot. Otherwise, varying shades of blue take over on the mesh, leather, and suede components of the shoe’s upper. Like most of the versions before it, the sole of the sneaker is prepped with a chunky Boost foam sole.

The brighter the better —

Kanye’s Yeezy Boost 700 gained notoriety for its “Wave Runner” makeup in 2017, earning the title as one of the forefathers of contemporary dad shoes. The silhouette and its accompanying V1, V2 and V3 spinoffs have since been dipped in earthy beiges and browns with the occasional bright accent, but there are also brighter color variants that run parallel to the “Hi-Res Blue.”

The “Bright Blue” model from 2021 falls closest in line to the upcoming pair because of its similar upper, but the soles there appeared in bright orange. The 2019 “Inertia” V2 opted for an all-over cornflower shade for a more subtle “Hi-Res Blue” counterpart. But if you look at the long lineup of 700s, Yeezy has a strong history of incorporating blue.

With the “Hi-Res Red” and “Hi-Res Blue” headed for stores soon, there’s no telling what else Yeezy has lined up on its color wheel. There isn’t an official release date just yet for the Yeezy Boost 700 “Hi-Res Blue,” but there are whispers of an August release. They’ll retail for $300 — that is, if you can cop retail. Otherwise, be prepared for the premiums.
