The Kansas City Royals made a significant move by acquiring second baseman Jonathan India and outfielder Joey Wiemer from the Cincinnati Reds in a trade deal. This trade adds a dependable leadoff hitter and middle infielder in India, who will join star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. in the Royals' lineup.

Jonathan India, the 27-year-old second baseman, was the NL Rookie of the Year in 2021. In the 2024 season, he posted solid numbers with a .248 batting average, 15 home runs, and 58 RBIs. India played a career-high 151 games and showcased his plate discipline by drawing 80 walks, ranking among the top five in the majors. He has primarily served as a leadoff hitter in his 523-game career.

Under contract for $5.45 million for the upcoming season, India is set to become a free agent in 2027. He was originally drafted fifth overall by the Reds in 2018, ahead of his former college teammate Brady Singer.

Brady Singer, a 28-year-old right-hander, was part of the trade package sent to Cincinnati. Singer has been a consistent presence in the Royals' starting rotation since his debut in 2020. In the 2024 season, he recorded a 9-13 record with a 3.71 ERA over 179 2/3 innings, contributing to the Royals' playoff push as they secured an AL wild-card spot.

Singer holds a career record of 36-44 with a 4.28 ERA in 127 appearances, primarily as a starter. He is eligible for arbitration in 2025 and free agency in 2027.

Joey Wiemer, the outfielder acquired alongside India, was part of a previous trade between the Reds and Milwaukee Brewers. The 25-year-old outfielder appeared in two games for the Reds and spent the rest of the season with Triple-A Louisville.

This trade marks a significant roster shakeup for both the Royals and the Reds, with India and Wiemer bringing their talents to Kansas City while Singer heads to Cincinnati in exchange.
