Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs, is currently located on the Missouri side of the border. However, there have been discussions about the possibility of the Chiefs moving to Kansas due to a proposed plan involving STAR bonds. Kansas recently passed a law allowing for the issuance of STAR bonds to fund up to 70% of the estimated cost of a new stadium project. This unique funding system would utilize revenue from retail sales tax, lottery, and sports betting to pay off the bonds over a 30-year period.
Chiefs president Mark Donovan expressed gratitude for the efforts made by the Kansas legislature to support the STAR bond proposal. Despite the potential benefits, Donovan emphasized that staying at Arrowhead Stadium and renovating the current structure remains a viable option. The Chiefs are under lease to continue playing at Arrowhead until the end of the 2030 season.
