This unique funding system would utilize revenue from retail sales tax, lottery, and sports betting to pay off the bonds over a 30-year period.
Chiefs president Mark Donovan expressed gratitude for the efforts made by the Kansas legislature to support the STAR bond proposal. Despite the potential benefits, Donovan emphasized that staying at Arrowhead Stadium and renovating the current structure remains a viable option. The Chiefs are under lease to continue playing at Arrowhead until the end of the 2030 season.

Notably, a previous plan in Jackson County, Missouri, to fund the relocation of the Kansas City Royals and renovate Arrowhead Stadium was rejected by residents in April. Concerns were raised about transparency, cost, and the distribution of financial responsibilities between the teams and taxpayers.
Despite speculation that sports betting could impact the decision-making process, Donovan downplayed its significance. He emphasized the need for thorough due diligence in determining the Chiefs' future home, acknowledging the long-term implications for the franchise.
