Kannada organization stages protest opposing visit of Maharashtra ministers to Belagavi

BELAGAVI: Demanding ban the entry of two Maharashtra ministers to Belagavi, the activists of Karnataka Ekikaran Samiti (Bengaluru) staged protest at the Channamma Circle, Belagavi on Monday.

Hundreds of activists who came from Bengaluru burnt effigy of Maharashtra government and shouted slogans. They also did ‘urulu seve’ around the circle.

Activists alleged that the Maharashtra ministers have planned to visit Belagavi city amid the tense situation between both Karnataka and Maharashtra states over the border dispute, just to create law and order problems and disturb the linguistic harmony.

Meanwhile, they took the local public representatives to task for maintaining a soft corner towards Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES), just for the votes of Marathi linguists. This attitude of Belagavi MLAs and MPs is condemnable, activists said.

Maharashtra ministers Chandrakant Patil and Shambhuraje Desai are expected to visit Belagavi on 6th December. Opposing their visit, several pro-Kannada organizations across the state including Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Narayana Gowda faction) have planned to hold a massive protest in Belagavi on the day.
