Nathan Cleary could miss out on claiming a long-awaited Dally M Medal in person after the Penrith star underwent emergency surgery on his horrific ankle injury.

Cleary took to social media on Monday to declare he would be back, less than 24 hours after suffering a compound fracture and dislocation of the ankle.
